It seems that you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting some sort of beauty oil. Oils for hair, oils for body, oils for face.
It took me a long time to finally find my place in the new oily reality. I have definitely gone through many unsuccessful attempts to belong to the new dewy moisturized world.
I have finally gotten to a place where there is a great oil for each purpose. Today we will talk about a Cleansing Oil.
When it comes to the face, cleansing oils aren’t exactly new but have gained a resurgence thanks to the oil craze. I had tried a couple of cleaning oils along the way and really didn’t love anything about them.
So knowing this, why did i decide that spending $100 for a cleansing oil was a great idea? Well lucky for me (and my whimpering bank account) it actually worked out! Who knew!
So I bring you Shu Uemura’s Ultimate8 Sublime Beauty cleansing oil (CAD$98, 450ml). Typical me, not only do I buy something that i know will likely not work for me, I go out and find the most expensive product of that type.
It must have been the promises of the sales associate “you will notice a difference in 7 days!, ” It wont break you out!”. Sure sure, this isn’t my first rodeo lady. But it worked and off I left the Shu counter $100 lighter.
Well imagine my surprise when this oil DIDN’T break me out, and as for the claims it will improve my skin.. not sure how much this had played a role in my recent skin improvement (it is this or Sunday Riley). But these days I am just happy when something doesn’t trash my skin.
What do I like about it?
- It really does a great job of getting all the makeup/sunscreen/general guck off my face
- It rinses clean fairly easily and doesn’t leave a film on my skin
- It leaves my skin feeling soft and not dried out
- The smell at first was way to floral to me, but I actually really like it now. It reminds me of Carol’s Daughter monoi products. This is a good thing to me
What don’t I like about it?
- Can’t use it with my Clarisonic so if i want to use that, i have to wash my face twice
- The price
So yes, the price will be prohibitive for most sane people. And is it necessarily worth that much? That I don’t know. But I actually see the potential of me using up the whole bottle and these days that is saying a lot.
There is a lot in a bottle so it will take a long time to go through the bottle, you really only need about two pumps. I haven’t made a dent in the bottle after over a month. So perhaps if you break out cost per use, it isn’t that spendy? Right??
If you find yourself with an extra hundy burning a hole in your pocket and you want something that doesn’t strip your face while providing great makeup removal, then I say give this a try. You have been enabled my friends.
You can find this at Shu Uemura counters or online at Shu Uemura.
