Exfoliating Lotions – A Goldilocks Tale

It all started with me trying the much loved and revered P50 Lotion and ended with Liquid Gold. Along the way some were good, some were bad and some just right.

Lets start with P50 – I have a full review here. Short story is it was way too much for me. It did exfoliate like a demon but also stripped all oil and any moisture out of my skin. It hurt, it made me skin hurt. So way too strong.

Next up I tried the also much loved and lauded Glow Tonic from Pixi. This one is at the lowest price point of them all. It is suitable from normal to dry skin and contains 5% Glycolic Acid, Aloe Vera and Ginseng help to soothe during application. This lotion I was able to use on a daily basis and didn’t find any drying out of my skin. It didn’t have the burning/tingling that the P50 lotion had and did leave my skin feeling suitably hydrated and smooth. What I didn’t find was a profound exfoliating effect. In fact I did not notice much effect at all. This one was too mild. On to the next….

Lastly we have Alpha H Liquid Gold. This one is the middle in terms of price point. It too has glycolic acid along with licorice extract to soothe and soften. This one did cause a heavy tingling sensation when applied. I found it did create a pretty good exfoliating effect but didn’t cause dryness at all. I used this every other night because it did feel on the stronger side and I didn’t want to over do it. I have noticed that my skin has felt smoother, pores kind of look smaller and my skin looks even and maybe even a little glowy. This one is juuusstt right.

So there you go, the tale of the too strong, too mild and the one that is just right. Enjoy!
