The Best Foundation Brushes

I haven’t talked about much what I consider to be the most important things you can buy which are makeup brushes. A good makeup brush can be a great investment. I still regularly use some MAC brushes I have owned for 20 years and they are still great to this day. I am going to look at the best foundation brushes you can buy.

I am not a beauty blender kind of girl. I want to love that whole concept but I just can’t. I am much more partial to using a brush for foundation application. The below three are some of the best I have tried at varying price points.

This Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush from Urban Decay is my favourite by far (and the cheapest!). At $26 you get a fluffy, super soft brush that applies foundation evenly and beautifully. It does not suck up the foundation so you don’t tend to get any foundation waste at all. I find this brush is big and full but gets into the corners of your face (like around your nose) just as good as a sponge or a flat foundation brush. The quality is amazing for this brush and again being the least expensive it is a great deal if you consider cost per use. It washes well and holds up its shape.

Another great option if you like the fluffier full brushes is Kevyn Aucoin’s Foundation Brush. At at whopping $98 this brush is an expensive option but is a beautiful brush that will stand the test of time. It is a little more contoured at the top for more precise application given it does have longer bristles that might not get to every corner of your face otherwise. The bristles are super soft and super full. It feels as luxe as it looks and yet does perform on par with the Urban Decay brush.

If you prefer the more flat synthetic fibre brush for applying foundation, the Make Up Forever Medium Foundation brush is an excellent option. The semi-new released Make Up Forever brushes have all been amazing and this one certainly doesn’t disappoint. I find this brush does tend to work better if you are looking for a more heavy coverage as it will apply a little more thickly but still blends everything out evenly. It is middle of the road cost wise at $43. It has stood up to multiple washings and retains its shape. It is a great flat foundation brush option.
